Winter Break Haul

Hi guys! Just wanted to pop in for a short post today and share some pictures of the “beauty” stuff I bought over Winter Break. I think I was pretty good actually! I only bought three different teas, a few key pieces of clothing from the YesStyle store in San Francisco and a new winter coat besides the stuff I have to show you today. Oh. And a MBD Sasa order that’s still coming in the mail teehee.

Lush Dream Cream body moisturizer and Fresh Face Masks in Cosmetic Warrior, Brazen Honey & B.B. Seaweed

If you’ve been reading for a while or follow me on Twitter, you’ll know how much I adore Lush and how much I hate that there isn’t a store in San Diego! I stopped by the Union Square store on my SF shopping trip with SO and his younger brother (who were both quite patient and well behaved during the trip, I have to add!) and got the Dream Cream and three of their Fresh Face Masks. Lulu recommended the Dream Cream for my eczema (on my right arm, not really bad, but bad enough to be irritating) so I asked SO to bring me a sample when he was in Seattle about a month ago. I positively loved the sample – it almost totally eliminated my eczema patch in two days, so I had to stock up on a full-size (I’ll be reviewing this in the next month or so?). I am also positively in love with the idea of Lush’s Fresh Face Masks and so the SA helped me pick out two in addition to my beloved B.B. Seaweed (review here). I’ve actually already used up all of Cosmetic Warrior and Brazen Honey, so I’ll have reviews of those soon. I froze B.B. Seaweed like K suggested, so I can happily enjoy that after midterms this quarter. :D

Sinful Secret Admirer, UFO, Nail Junkie, Sally Hansen Diamond Strength 04 Royal Icing Hard Candy Lava, OPI Shimmery-Chic, Essie Love, Beverly Hills

I also got a chance to go to a Walgreens! There is actually one pretty near where we live in San Diego… but it’s kind of out of the way and not really where SO and I shop for groceries so I’ve only sent him to get TheFaceShop sheet masks for me once in the past, and haven’t ever been there myself. SO was kind enough to take me to Walgreens (I forget what we actually went there for) and I picked up three Sinful polishes in Secret Admirer, UFO and Nail Junkie after seeing Diana’s swatches. I also picked up Sally Hansen Royal Icing since I wanted to do that snowflake nail art manicure from a few weeks back. When I got back to San Diego, I hit Ulta and Ross for the after-Christmas sales and picked up OPI Shimmery-Chic and Essie Love, Beverly Hills. I also found Hard Candy Lava while at Walmart grocery shopping with a friend. Unfortunately they were out of Mr. Wrong which I really want too, but my friend said she’d keep an eye out for it since she shops there more often. =)

Mamegoma 2010 Calendar from Mai Do, His & Hers Bunny keychain & Bunny Stud earrings from Apple Jewelry

I also went to Santana Row for lunch with SO and an old debate friend (the friend insisted I drive his brand new Volvo on the way there – it was my first time driving on CA highways!!!! But we got there in one piece and both he and SO said I did surprisingly well for not having driven in about 2-3 years LOL….) and so of course we had to stop by Mai Do. I was good though and I only bought a Mamegoma calendar for myself (and another cute thing for a friend). The last two pictures can’t really be considered part of my “Winter Break haul” since I actually bought them about a month before then, but they were sitting in my mailbox when I got back to San Diego. If you follow me on Twitter they might look familiar though LOL. I bought a His & Hers bunny keychain set and a pair of suuuuuuper cute bunny studs from Apple Jewelry on Ebay. She carries the CUTEST cheap Asian jewelry. The shipping takes quite a while, but I think it’s really worth it. I paid less than $10 for both items shipped. And I love them!! SO is grudgingly carrying the bow-tie bunny on his keys right now. TEEHEEHEE.

Did you guys get anything fun over the holidays?

I loveeee the fresh face masks! I actually have Crash Course in Skincare all frozen up in the fridge because I realized it was expiring in less than a day last week eep! Since we’ve been talking about Dream Cream over on msn, I’m quite interested in getting it as a winter-time moisturizer when I move to Australia ;D

YAY for new nail polishes! OPI Shimmery-chic looks like a nice deep bronze color, I love it! Nail Junkie looks like a nice fun blue too XD

Awww the His & Hers bunny keychains are just ADORABLE! (Good job on convincing your SO to use it LOL) I love the earrings too, great winter haul Catherine!

LOL. That’s what happened to me too!! I was using up the rest of Cosmetic Warrior during the weekend and was like … crap, these expire on Monday! So I found just enough jars to clean out and make three aliquots LOL. Oooooh, you totally have to try the Dream Cream. It’s definitely pricey for a moisturizer, but it works SO WELL. Especially if you have eczema patches. I actually use it almost exclusively on my arms and elbows since I have less problems with the rest of my body and I want it to last as long as possible (who knows when I’ll be near a Lush again?!) LOL!!

& thanks! This is why I can’t ever decide which polish to wear next! I have so many I haven’t worn as full manicures yet I actually made myself a bet that I can’t not buy nail polish for an entire month. LOL. Wish me luck!!!

& teeheehee. SO’s been telling me “this bunny and I aren’t friends yet” every time he takes out his keys to unlock the door or something. But I hope they make friends yet. LOL!

  2. ooh lush!!! i’m lucky to have one about 10 minutes away from me. i mostly purchase presents for my friends instead of me from there, because they have such nice gift sets, but i love just walking in there. the soaps are so colorful and pretty!
ooh shimmery chic!! (lol sorry my automatic response when i see something pretty is to ooh) i saw scrangie’s swatch of that and it looked so pretty :) the keychains are adorable too, but my favorite is that calendar! i went outlet shopping over the holidays, i’ll probably do a post on the stuff i got sometime later

Oh man! I’m so jealous! =P I agree, I think Lush makes some of the nicest gift sets out there. You should try some samples of their skincare if you get the chance though! I think it’s really underrated! I want to try one of their cleansers next. =)

& hahahahaha, no worries at all. I can’t tell you what percentage of comments I start with “Oooooooh…” That’s totally my response too. I totally can’t wait to wear Shimmery-Chic! I’m pretty happy with my calendar too – I figured that’s something that can perk up my day all year round. Can’t wait to see the fruits of your outlet shopping! :D

yup despite the pollution LA is really nice when it comes to having a million different shops close by. i’ve wanted to try their going green solid perfume for awhile, but i just never really got around to it. i have heard that their body creams are really nice though, and the shower jello looks so fun but i would definitely drop and break it within 5 seconds of buying it. im definitely not hand eye coordinated :)
make sure you post up a picture when you do, it’s so pretty! yeah thats my theory too! i got a (i don’t know if you’ve heard of this show but boys over flowers) calendar to perk up all my days in 2010.

    Catherine responds:

LOL. I know I’m so jealous. LA has like 5 Lush stores or something! And I mean seriously? Even my parents have a Lush-in-Macy’s in Columbus, Ohio!! I’ve actually always really wanted to try their shower jello since it looks like so much fun, but it seems like such a hazard in the shower! LOL!

& of course! I try to post a NOTW every week. I try to post on Monday… but it usually ends up being Tuesday or Wednesday since I don’t always get to snap a nice daylight picture. And oooooh, I’ve heard a lot of good things about Boys Over Flowers but I don’t actually watch TV (b/c I binge watching stuff online when I get started, so it’s really best not to start LOL). Might have to find a friend to have a marathon over Spring Break though. =)

    Makeupmorsels responds:

what skincare would you reccomend from lush? i think i’m going to go shopping this weekend, and i haven’t bought anything from there in awhile. hahah it does. way to easy to squish.
i don’t really watch tv at all either, i watch all my shows on the computer or i buy them on dvd. but i watched boys over flowers online last year and good for you not getting started because i got NOTHING done for about one month lol. it was not good.

    Catherine responds:

Hmm, what skintype do you have? I really love their Fresh Face Masks. I particularly love Brazen Honey and B.B. Seaweed though I think they’re all pretty awesome for different skintypes. You should definitely ask an SA for help. I’ve only tried those two and Cosmetic Warrior and Love Lettuce so far and I wasn’t in love with Cosmetic Warrior’s garlic dip smell and Love Lettuce was a bit too harsh for me. I also really want to try Angels on Bare Skin but I haven’t gotten around to it yet so I can’t personally recommend it lol. If you’re on the market for a body moisturizer, their Dream Cream is probably THE BEST I’ve ever tried.

& LOL. Yea… I once watched an entire season of GG in like… two days. It was horrible. D: D: D:

    Makeupmorsels responds:

I have pretty sensitive skin. I’d say it’s combo. I thought about buying their Dream Cream last year, it sounded so yummy. The Brazen Honey mask sounds good too, I’ve never actually used masks before, although I do use exfoliating scrubs quite a lot.
Oh god, that show is really addicting. Summer is probably the worst! I can spend hours on end doing aboslutely nothing but watching shows on my computer.

ORLY!? LOL. It’s such a gorgeous gorgeous red! And YES!!!! I KNOW RIGHT?!?! It’s at the Stonestown Galleria in SF near SF State. Unfortunately it’s quite a small store with very limited and seasonal selection… but I was still able to find some really cute things and more importantly for me – try them on first! :D

    & thanks! :D

  6. Lulu says:

great hauls hun! omg I am so so so glad Dream Cream also works wonders for you! It’s such a pleasant discovery, and I am not going to worry about next winter if my skin ever acts up again (but hopefully not!!). I have yet to try a fresh LUSH mask, but now I’m not afraid of the expiration dates cuz we can freeze the left overs :)
hahaha I too also haven’t been driven on CA highways for a while!!! :p I don’t even break a sweat when I’m at home (midwest) but whenever I’m in CA, I’d be afraid to drive cuz traffic/drivers appear way more crazy here :p
Yay more nail polishes to add to your collection :) look forward to your new notd’s!
And I know I’ve said this before, but ADORABLE bunny earrings!!! <3

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

Hehe, thanks! And thanks again for the recommendation!! I was seriously freaking out when I started getting the eczema but it’s definitely under control now and I hope it’ll be gone by next week or so? It’s mostly my fault because I don’t remember to put on the lotion every morning after I shower and evening before bed LOL… And yea! K is such a genius! :D

OMG you’re from the midwest too! I learned to drive in Ohio and CA drivers just terrify me! The really embarrassing thing is that I was actually pretty ok with the highway driving since I have a lot of experience driving interstate with my mom, but once we actually got off the freeway I was super nervous and then I couldn’t park the car by myself LOL…

Ah, so it’s WordPress. I like how the replies show up after each comment, Blogger really needs to get cracking on that. ZOMG I didn’t know Yesstyle has a store in the US! xD I just ordered a bunch of Yesstyle stuff, I want to see what you got, and I’m pretty sure a lot of Asian viewers would be excited to see your haul as well :D I’m curious about Lush, I’ve been seeing it everywhere. I’m just not that adventurous with my skin anymore, I’m sorta scared to now that I’ve finally found what’s worked for me. Also, thanks again for introducing me to Lip Drink, saved my lips during the summer months and I live in the subtropics so it’s sunny most of the year. Best SPF stick balm I’ve tried. :D

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

Yea! I love WordPress. I truly think that it’s the best blogging software out there. It’s gotten a lot more complicated since I first used it (like 8 years ago – makes me feel so old LMAO) but it’s so much easier to use in so many ways too. And since the Google Friend Connect is basically portable now there’s really no reason for me to stay on Blogger anymore. :D I think you can get threaded commenting on Blogger but it requires some sort of third-party plugin thingy? (I think Disqus?)

& YEA! I was sooo excited when I found out they opened a store! Sadly there’s only one in San Francisco and it’s quite small with a very limited selection, but I’m just so happy I got to try things on and figure out what fit me and what didn’t. I think I’ll be able to order from the brands I bought based off that from now on. =) And hehe, I’ll be sure to do a post on my YesStyle stuff then. I unfortunately didn’t take any pictures of the store though… maybe next time. :D

I totally don’t blame you for playing it safe with your skin – I’m definitely like that too. I’m sad to report that some of their bubble bars give me allergic reactions (SO NOT FUN) so I think I’m just not going to buy anymore of those… ;_; I only very recently ventured into their skincare. I’ve always been really skeptical, but I have to say I’ve been very positively impressed by the products I’ve tried so far. I think the Fresh Face Masks are FANTASTIC if you can get a hold of them (and relatively safe to try since you only leave them on for 10 minutes, though I always leave them on for much longer). I’ve also just been blown away by how effective the Dream Cream is. The texture is just absolutely amazing too. It sinks in almost instantly with no residue!

And aww, I didn’t realize you found it through me. So glad to hear it worked out for you. :D

Oooh. I love LUSH, I went there last night to see if there were any holiday leftovers still on sale but I’ve been fighting a cough and the smell in there just tipped me off completely. T.T

I’ve mostly just used their bath bombs but I’ll have too look into their masks some more. My skin’s been much drier in this cold weather! Maybe it’ll help. :)

    Love your bunny earrings!

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

Aww I hope you feel better soon! I have to admit, I find the store to be a bit overwhelming in terms of sights and smells – everytime I go in there I feel like I’m hunting for buried treasure LOL.

Sadly I’m allergic to a few of their bath bombs and bubble bars so I’ve decided to stay away from those for now.. ;_; But definitely try out their skin and body care! I’ve been so impressed with everything I’ve tried thus far. =)
