Hi guys! We resume regularly scheduled posting here at Strawberry Mochi today – at least for today anyway. I’m a little swamped with studying/lab/midterms/interviews in the next two weeks so I may be a bit scarce… but I did just edit about 15 posts worth of pictures today! I think there will be a lot of reviews coming up until I can figure out my skin. As many of you know, I’ve been struggling with an annoying amount of cystic acne since the early part of last quarter (most likely hormonal due to stress and lack of sleep since I haven’t really changed anything) and I unfortunately missed 3 birth control pills in the last two weeks so… yea. It’s not pretty. =/ I did go out and buy two Mario Badescu products and a Murad medicated concealer last week and they seem to be working pretty well but unfortunately I have some pretty stubborn blighters and I don’t even know what I’m going to do about the scarring yet. =/
Anyway – onto prettier things, I got my Soft Surroundings order last Tuesday! This was the mini haul I made in celebration of finishing all my grad school applications a couple weeks ago. Happily, I also received my first graduate school acceptance – to UC Davis’s Biomedical Engineering Program. It’s not exactly my top choice, but it’s comforting to know that I have somewhere to go next year LOL. Soft Surroundings was having an uber sale on Paul & Joe Beaute, as well as Becca and some other brands. I got a blush and a lipstick (I believe $10 and $8 respectively?). They normally retail for $25 and $20 so I was really happy.
Unfortunately I was not very pleased with Soft Surroundings or UPS. First, I received my order in nothing but a plastic bubble mailer. Yea, everything was just thrown in, and the mailer was sealed normally, not even wrapped tightly around the items. I’m a little amazed that the blush survived intact, but thankfully it did. Still, shoddy, shoddy packaging. Second, the lipstick arrived with prints on both sides, as if someone had gently touched it. I opted to keep it since the one I bought went out of stock, but still, how is this acceptable? I contacted CS about it and they offered me either $2 off or $3 off my next order. UPS really frustrated me too. It took them considerably longer to ship the packages than I would have expected and the first day, they had it out for delivery from Anaheim, which is about two hours away from San Diego. THEN, when the driver couldn’t make the whole route, my package went BACK to Anaheim, then to San Diego, then to me. It was also just thrown outside my door where SO found it. T_T;
ANYWAY – now truly onto prettier things. I ordered the powder blush #10 Tango, and the lipstick #14 Strawberry Jam. They’re both gorgeous. The blush is actually considerably more pigmented than I expected it to be (I don’t know why I thought it wouldn’t be), certainly not on par with NARS or Shu Uemura’s Pastel Fluos (coming up) but more pigmented than my Laura Mercier blushes. I… actually kind of find it an awkward pigmentation to work with because one layer is not quite enough but two is too much. Actually one is probably just fine, but for some reason I like doing two layers. I think I’ll try using it with my EcoTools mineral blush brush. The lipstick is lovely too! Paul & Joe lipsticks are notorious for being very weakly pigmented, but I was actually pleased with this one. It certainly is sheer, but two layers gives a beautiful just-kissed kind of look. Very pretty and wearable. It’s quite glossy with shimmers (so… don’t overapply because shimmer overload is not that pretty) and the texture is like a cushy lip balm, which I love. Swatches below.

I will probably be posting my FOTD with both these products tomorrow and I do love both of them… but I doubt I’ll be wearing the blush much at least for now. Unfortunately I typically don’t feel like wearing reddish/pink blush when I’m broken out because it really brings out my blemishes and scars. =/ If anyone has recommendations for products that can deal with acne scars, please do let me know! I’ve used both the Ole Henricksen Truth Serum (sort of stopped working after a week??) and The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Overnight Treatment (it was great, but now I’m apparently allergic to it) but I’m looking for something new.
