NOTW: Zoya Happi Princess French

Hey guys, been a while since I posted a NOTD. Please excuse my uneven nails and dryness – I got super fed up with breakage about two weeks ago and trimmed all my nails to the quick (in retrospect, a bad idea as they hurt for a day or two afterwards) and I haven’t been moisturizing my hands well enough since I took my hand lotion out of my makeup bag for air travel. I know I said I wouldn’t buy any nail polish until I finished all my planned posts… but Zoya recently had a two free nail polish promotion so I bought the Qtica Intense Lip Repair and I got Happi and Adina from their latest collection. I know it’s kind of cheating, but I’ve had my eye on Happi for a really long time now. I love it too! I tried to color correct to show the brightness, but failed, it’s a tad warmer and a whole lot brighter and more duochrome gold in real life. I was pressed for time so I just did a simple french tip with gold.

Orly Bonder, 2 coats Zoya Happi, L.A. Colors Artdeco gold glitter striping polish, Fing’rs rhinestone, Seche Vite Quick-Dry Topcoat

Unfortunately, all the housework SO and I did over the weekend left my nails in pretty bad condition before I repolished them. I think I’m going to have to cut them down again (and I think I need to start watching my calcium intake again too) before I can grow them out like they used to be. It’s nothing too bad, but the top layer of a few nails on my right hand keep peeling, and I know it will continually be responsible for broken tips until I can get rid of it completely.

This pink is so fresh and pretty! Totally spring-ish!
I love this elegant design you did a lot, and phh… I can’t see any dry cuticles or whatsoever, Catherine!

My hands got really dry and ripped due to working at the restaurant the past weeks, since it’s inevitable to get into contact with water a lot. So bad for my already super dry hands (and nails!). :/

But I’ve been super diligent with treating my hands with loooots of cream and cuticle oil the recent days, so they have recovered a bit already.

Aww thanks! I am so ready for spring to get here! I really like Happi – it really is such a spring-y fun color. And LOL. You’re too kind, maybe the lighting in the picture is especially forgiving but my hands feel awful right now. I finally tried my sample of Sephora by OPI Restorative Hand Moisturizer though, and I really like it.

    Glad to hear your hands are feeling better! Water is seriously the worst enemy – I usually carry hand lotion so I can apply some everytime I wash my hands. I haven’t been using hand lotion since I still can’t find my L’Occitane Cherry Blossom! Can’t figure out where I put it! I should really just use moisturizer all over before bed, but I’ve been so lazy lately … ^^;;

ooo i really like this NOTD! The design is simply too pretty and elegant, remind me of spring and puts me in a happy mood :) Thanks for this design inspiration, I will try this on my nails someday, after I get some gems! :)

My cuticles have been really dry recently too :(

    Catherine responds:

Aww, thanks! I think simple is sometimes best, yes? I felt silly doing bows again so i figured this was a good compromise lol. Can’t wait to see your take on it!

And aww. Maybe it’s the weather?? I feel like my hands usually aren’t this bad and I’m not usually fanatical about applying hand lotion… dunno what’s up! =/

  3. What a pretty pink! Reminds me of Spring….whee! =D The current weather has been wreaking havoc on my hands. So much so I have to add a pump of argan oil to my hand cream at night just to keep them nicely moisturized. =\

Thanks! Hmm, maybe it is the weather then! I don’t remember my hands being this dry normally, I thought it was just that I did a whole lot of laundry over the weekend… I’m gonna have to get off my butt and find my Crabtree & Evelyn hand lotion.

Thanks! Sometimes I have to go with simple, though I love all of your nail art designs! I wish i was talented enough to do more complicated painting!

I wish I’m as good as you in doing my nails! Can you do a tutorial? :)

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

Aww, you can be though! Believe me, I could barely paint a single color on my nails 6 months ago, it just takes practice!

I’ve still got a general nail care series on my list of posts-to-do but it’s taking a while simply because I can’t take pictures of my own hands while I’m painting my nails (lol….) but there’s not *that* much to this one, really. I just laid down the rhinestone (dip a toothpick in water and pick up the stone with it) while my last coast of Zoya Happi was still wet and then carefully painted a line with the gold striping polish on both sides of the rhinetone. Good luck!

I know, but I’m always on the run, so I only have like a few minutes before another meeting, or class, or even work! You should totally do a tutorial on your nails!!!

And dude, you can totally do it. I could barely paint one color on my nails about 6 months ago – it really just comes down to practice. =)

Thanks! I’m actually a huge fan of hot pink nails lol, I’m such a girly-girl lmao.

Aww, you can do it too! This took me about half an hour, from removing the old polish to when it was done drying. It definitely takes longer at first (get yourself a quick dry topcoat though – it’s an absolute must), but with practice, it becomes really easy!

I love the design~ So pretty!! You are such a pro with nails!! Yes yes, you should definitely watch your calcium intake, not just for your nails! My nails also peeled like crazy when they grew over a certain length, but since I started drinking 1-2 glasses of milk a day they’ve been fine =)

Ooooh, good for you!!! I unfortunately don’t like milk very much so I try to eat more yogurt (which is awesome for you in so many other ways too!), but we ran out a while ago and I haven’t gotten anymore… ^^;; It’s definitely something I should be watching though, since my grandma had AWFUL osteoporosis… =/

  12. ooh I can kinda see the gold duochrome in the second picture on your thumb. Love Happi, I was stalking Scrangie’s blog so I saw the full duochrome thing going on. I like this design, it’s simple but very bright and happy. And let me know how that lip stuff works out :D

    Catherine responds:

Ooh, I should link to Scrangie’s swatch – she has the MOST gorgeous pictures! I was surprised because most people have said that Happi has one of the quietest duochromes of the Reverie collection, but it surprised me by being a lot more pronounced than I expected! I really love it. :D

And I’ll definitely review the Qtica balm soon. I really liked it a lot at first, but it seems to have limited healing capabilities… but I think I need to give it another few days before I form a solid opinion on it.

I need a nail fairy to do my nails lol! You always create the cutest nails, I still have my old and chipped nail polish on right now but I’m so lazy to re do them since glitter is such a pain to take off sometimes :/

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

Heeheehee. Man, I wish I had a nail fairy!!

Aww, thanks. I am a little OCD about my nails. After they get to a certain point of chipped/brokenness they really bother me until I have time to fix them. Have you tried using felt? Felt instead of a cotton ball/pad is AMAZING for glitters!

Duuude, I was lazy and didn’t do a pre-topcoat before SV and now I’ve lost half my rhinestones. T_T; Oh well, I was gonna redo them before my recruitment even in Davis anyway since it’s a tad bright LOL.

And aww, drink more milk!! I have to too, but it really makes a huge difference!
