Hi guys, lots of pictures today! So, I finally caved on my first Chanel nail polish. I’ve been aware of Chanel’s LE releases for quite a while. I considered buying Jade and Trapeze previously but just couldn’t justify the $23 (now $25) price tag. But then… they made Illusion d’Or. Chanel apparently doesn’t have descriptions of their nail polishes, but Illusion d’Or is, to my eyes, fine gold glitter, irregular iridescent gold flaky glitters and medium hexagonal iridescent blue-purple glitter suspended in a clear base. It is freaking gorgeous. As far as I know, Chanel Illusion d’Or is only available on their website (they have free shipping for Mother’s Day ’till May 2nd), or in their free-standing boutiques.
I first put Id’O over pa A86, which is a metallic mint green. I originally wanted to wear it over a Chanel Jade dupe but I hated how Claire’s Dream Catcher made my hands look (practically inflamed red) so I went with pa A86 instead. Also, irritatingly enough UPS made two delivery attempts before leaving my package at the leasing office, which was then closed the next morning, so I actually wore pa A86 by itself (well + Seche Vite) for two nights before I got to put Illusion d’Or over it. Don’t try to put Illusion d’Or over any quick-dry topcoat. It caused my nail polish to peel away at the edges where I had applied it (which was slightly inside the edge of the nail). (Sorry for the dark pictures, I didn’t get any sunlight pics of this manicure.)

And then… I put it over Zoya Zara (and added lots of glitter & gems because when I go bling I can’t leave well enough alone). Illusion d’Or is rather hard to capture fully, so I hope these pictures give you an idea of what it’s like in real life (absolutely gorgeous). Please click to full-size the pictures – they’re huge this time. :D

In retrospect I think I should have just stayed with the single stripe of gold instead of filling in the entire tip, but it’s unfortunately one of those things you can’t really fix after you’ve committed lol. I sadly smudged my right index finger pretty badly right after I did this mani also, but it’s glittery enough I can live with it for a few days. I think I’m going to wear Illusion d’Or over a pink with gold shimmer next. :D
Hey, so you guys probably noticed, I’m trying out a new size of pictures (or rather… I forgot to change my camera setting back). I’d appreciate your input! The new full-size pictures are 1600×1200 & 800×1067 and WordPress’s default “large” thumbnails look to be 450×337 & 337×450. I will probably scale the portrait thumbnails to 300×445. I can’t make the large thumbnails larger unless I load the full size & then scale it (which defeats the purpose of a thumbnail because then your browser has to load the full-size version anyway). The old full-size pictures are 640×480 & 480×640, with the “large” thumbnails being 550×412 (essentially just scaled in width) & 480×640. If you guys prefer the 550 across landscape thumbnails (or if I get irritated enough that my tables no longer line up), I might see if I can find a plugin that allows me to have custom thumbnail sizes (or beg the SO to write one for me :D).
