MAC To The Beach Marine Life High-Light Powder Pt. 2

Hi guys! I’m finally feeling well enough to put on a bit of makeup so I decided I would de-overspray Marine Life today! Here’s one last look at the pretty overspray…

MAC Marine Life High-Light Powder, with overspray, natural light

And here it is with the overspray gone. I have to say, I still think the powder is beautiful without the overspray. The relief is very nicely done and deep so it will stay around for quite a while. (Click to enlarge.)

MAC Marine Life High-Light Powder, without overspray, two views, natural light

Here are swatches on my fingers:

MAC Marine Life High-Light Powder swatches, from L-R, light pink, mixed & coral

The light pink is a very light baby pink and the coral side is a pretty bright reddish coral. The entire powder is matte with little silver shimmers mixed in. Together, the powder makes a very nice pinky-coral.

I compared Marine Life to my other pinky-coral and coral colors. I don’t really have any close dupes in my collection… I mean, that’s why I bought it! But hey, everyone loves seeing blush pictures, right? :D

Clockwise from bottom left: Tarina Tarantino Parasol, Laura Mercier Apricot Face Tint, shu uemura lolly chery, Chanel Irreelle Blush In Love, MAC Marine Life High-Light Powder, NARS Torrid, Rock & Republic All-Nighter, Paul & Joe #10 Tango, Paul & Joe Disney Face Color 002 Flower

And here are swatches. I apologize for the quality of these, I had to color correct them myself in Photoshop (auto-levels turned my arms blue…) but they are pretty color-accurate now, in my opinion. (Again, click to enlarge.)

Swatches: Paul & Joe Disney Face Color 002 Flower (light pink, medium pink, bright pink), MAC Marine Life (light pink, mixed, coral), shu uemura cherry lolly Swatches: shu uemura cherry lolly, Tarina Tarantino Parasol, NARS Torrid, Paul & Joe #10 Tango, Rock & Republic All-Nighter, Laura Mercier Apricot Face Tint, Chanel Irreelle Blush In Love

As you can see, the color is quite unique in my collection, and that’s why I bought it. I’m really happy that the mixed color and the coral color are very different as well, because it’s like getting two blushes in one. Plus, the pink side is actually a nice highlighter for my skintone (~NC30 currently). :D The only color that even looks close is Rock & Republic All-Nighter which is similar to the coral side of Marine Life, but you can see it is brighter, more orange and the finish is totally different. For what it’s worth, I don’t think Marine Life and All-Nighter look anything alike when actually worn.

And here is my first FOTD with MAC Marine Life. I think it’s very similar in character to shu uemura lolly cherry except much less pink and more red. I will note though, I thought it was somewhat hard to mix the two colors of Marine Life using my Ecotools mineral powder brush… but I’ll try again with my MAC 188 next time.

Eyes: MAC Melon, Museum Bronze, Blonde’s Gold; Cheeks: MAC Marine Life (coral as blush, pink as highlighter); Lips: shu uemura Jupiter Brown;

I also decided to cave on the MAC Lustre Drops in Pink Rebel. I’m wearing 3 drops mixed into my shu uemura FA Smoothing foundation and really loving the glow it gives me. I also think this is the first time I’ve posted this EOTD. It’s my absolute favorite MAC pigment EOTD and I’ve been wearing it practically 3 times a week in the last few months. It’s so eye-brightening and pretty. =)

Hope all my US readers are enjoying the long weekend, and that everyone else is enjoying their regular weekend. =)

It is really pretty! It’s not quite as easy to use as I would have liked. I think I picked the wrong brush to try and use with it this morning lol. I’ll update once I try with my MAC 188. & thanks! The eyeshadow combination is one of my all-time favorites! :D

  2. I’m glad the seahorse is still there :D It gives you a gorgeous glow, hope you’ll be 100% recovered soon. I was definitely eyeing the Lustre Drops (just to mix with my moisturizer and such), but was torn between pink and gold, and then I was like no more makeup! nonono. For now, I’m only buying staples I run out of, but this collection definitely made things very hard for me. Love your EOTD, it’s very natural but definitely makes your eyes stand out. oh gosh an extra free day tomorrow! I am super excited, plus I only have 2 more weeks of school :)

    Catherine responds:

Oh yea! The seahorse will stay around for ages, I think. It’s a pretty deep imprint. =)

Thank you! :D & LOL dude, I was debating between the pink and gold for suuuuch a long time too! Finally one of the SAs made the decision for me. I was afraid the pink might be too sparkly (it was way more sparkly compared to the gold, at least when I swatched it) but she was afraid the gold would be too dark for me (I personally really doubt it) but she SPONGED Pink Rebel directly onto my cheeks! Like a lot of it! And it still didn’t look crazy shimmery or like I rubbed greasy chicken all over my face so I was sold. :D

& duuuude. I am like total fail at being on a low/no-buy. I swear for summer I’ll be better though! I did pretty well last summer too. I think the lack of school stress really helps.

& good luck!!! My entire evening is going to be devoted to laundry and studying for my upcoming makeup finals … ergh. We’re soooooo close though!! :D

    makeup morsels responds:

The pink definitely gives you such a pretty glow. LMAO @ the greasy chicken comment. oh that’s right! When are you going on your trip? Extremely! Most of my friends only have one week left and they told me that for the subjects they took AP’s in, they’re given exemptions for the final. Uh…what? *grumpy face*

    Catherine responds:

Thanks! I keep thinking it looks better or worse IRL. I think it looked better after I wore it for a few hours… but I’m not sure, LOL. It’s much more even IRL, but over a way larger part of my face because the powder doesn’t really blend that well…

& we are returning our keys 6/15 and leaving the morning of 6/16. I’m actually done after this week too. Got final presentations Tuesday and Thursday and no finals during finals week this year! :D I will be madly packing and moving instead lol…

& man, that’s ridiculous! I took a *lot* of AP classes in my high school career and I was never given an exemption for taking the AP test!?!? D:

Wow you look amazing in your FOTD, really glowy. Marine Life is so pretty on your cheeks! I found mine to be a little chalky to be perfectly honest, not as amazing as I had built it up to be, but at least its lovely to look at lol! I also love the eye make-up on you, I might have to dig up my Melon pigment sample tomorrow morning.

    Catherine responds:

Aww thank you!! Dude, I will admit, Marine Life is not nearly as easy to work with as I had hoped. I didn’t find it chalky, per se, but it really isn’t nearly as blendable or creamy in texture as some of my favorite blushes. Which is sad, because it’s such a pretty color! I think I picked the wrong brush to use with it this morning though. I’m going to try the MAC 188 next and see if I fare any better.

& thanks! It’s one of my favorite EOTDs and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna wear it like everyday during the summer. :D I’m sad I only have a pressed half-pan of Melon. I think it’s the only MAC pigment I’d ever buy a full size of!

love your FOTD!!! the combination of melon and marine life is so gorgeous!

Ooh I swear I thought this was going to be “blech” after the overspray is gone! But it is *still* pretty, though not as beautiful as before.

Glad to hear you’re feeling good enough to wear makeup! I’ve been wearing similar colours for work last week. It’s just easier to have a routine down when you’re on the run, y’know?

LOL. It does actually look pretty bleh in most pictures I’ve seen of it, but I think that’s just the photography. It’s not nearly as stunning without the overspray, but it’s still a very pretty powder!

& thanks! & hehe, my other favorite is Shu P Beige cream eyeshadow with MAC Smoke & Diamonds for the perfect neutral taupe eye. =)

  11. I’m glad you’re feeling better enough to play with makeup! ML looks so good on you!
Funny enough you mention using the 188, I found that I didn’t like applying it with skunks or soft brushes, but a scratchy cheap E.l.f. brush blended the color really well and did the trick. Weird, eh?

Heyyyy! Thanks!! I am feeling way better… I’m hoping another night of good sleep will cure me. Sadly, I managed to trigger a muscle spasm in my left shoulder again (this is a recurring problem for me…) and now SO’s sick with flu … D:

& hmmmmmm. Damn. Marine Life really doesn’t have a great texture to work with comparatively, which is really pretty disappointing because I have (and have had) a lot of other MAC products which are pretty nice (of course not as nice as my Shu or LM or R&R …) in texture. Poop. I’ll see what I can do with the 188 anyway. I’m afraid the Ecotools full size powder brush will pick up way too much pigment and unfortunately I don’t really have any other blush brushes. Sometimes the 187SE is nice for getting an even application on pigmented powders though, since it’s just about the size of the apple of my cheeks. We’ll see…

    & thank you!! :D

& yea…. I believe To The Beach actually launched in Europe a few weeks before it launched here in the US, but I don’t think there was as much of a craze over Marine Life there. You may get lucky if you call around to a few counters. If not, the collection is launching in Asia in June (I’m not sure when lol…) so you might be able to find someone to CP for you if you *really* want it. Good luck!

I like the look your look with the Marine Life highlight powder a lot! I think the red looks really adorable against your skintone, and what I noticed is that girls with smaller faces, like you have, pull off more intensive cheek colors so well!

Wider faces like mine must use intensive cheek colors very very lightly, haha…

& thanks!! & hahaha awww that’s not true at all! You wear brights really well! Immoral was beautiful on you! But I do admit it’s pretty easy for me to pop bright colors on my apples. It’s pretty much the ONLY thing good about my baby-faced face lol. =P
