Back with June Favorites!

Hi guys! I’m back from my post-graduation trip to Germany and Greece! It was, for the most part, amazing, and I’m definitely going to do a couple posts regarding my trip soon (I’m just beginning to sort through pictures right now and I took about 2000 for the entire trip so……………..).

First off though, I’d like to thank everyone who stopped by and left me well wishes for the trip and/or congratulations for my graduation. I know I haven’t been able to respond to everyone, but it really means a lot to me, so thank you! :D

Anyway, I thought I would get back into things with my June Favorites since I’m trying to do them every month now. I actually made two videos for my skincare and makeup favorites because my boyfriend kept my camera in Germany (he’ll be back on Wednesday, just spending a few extra days with the relatives) so he could show his grandmother pictures from our trip (she doesn’t own a computer – isn’t that cuuuute though? :D).

So, here are my June Favorites: (I apologize in advance for being so long-winded.)

Skincare

  • Alba Botanica Very Emollient Sunblock Mineral Protection SPF30: This high protection mineral-only sunblock wears weightlessly and colorlessly after I rub it in and blot, hadn’t caused any adverse skin reactions and only costs $10 for a 4oz tube. I’m almost happy Proctor and Gamble discontinued all of DDF’s sunscreens (except one) so I was forced to go out and find something so much better!
  • Kanebo Kracie Naive Olive Deep Cleansing Oil: Recommended to me by Lulu and Diana, this cleansing oil removes all traces of makeup on my face in 20 seconds flat – including the infamously difficult-to-remove Kiss Me Heroine Make mascaras. It does leave a bit of a residue for me so I use my regular cleanser afterwards, but as a makeup remover, it is AMAZING.
  • Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Clear Skin Cream: I haven’t had one full blown cystic pimple on my face since I started to use this treatment twice a day. It’s a miracle!
  • Avalon Organics Lavender Renewal Facial Serum: This vitamin C serum works similarly to the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum for a fraction of the price, and the creamy texture allows it to sink into my skin and blend seamlessly with my oil moisturizer whereas gels tend to sit on top and pill when I rub an oil over them.
  • Vichy Thermal Spa Water: Pretty much identical to the Shu Uemura Depsea Water, and about the same price per oz, this convenient travel bottle was a lifesaver on planes, and in hot, humid Greece even when I wasn’t wearing makeup.
  • Natural sea sponge from Greece: This real sea sponge was harvested off the island of Kalymnos in the Dodecanese, and makes for the perfect, gentle face scrubbie.

Makeup

  • Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer ($8, 1.6oz): Works really well to reduce oiliness and keeps my makeup in place. It has a similar texture to the Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner (for a FRACTION of the cost), but doesn’t give me the sudden after-7hrs catastrophic oil slick the Dr. Brandt did.
  • Make Up For Ever Face & Body Liquid Makeup ($38, 1.69oz): The perfect light, dewy, summer foundation. It has a really weird texture in the bottle, but looks like real skin on the face and holds up incredibly well to sweat, oil, etc. (I also love that it’s cheaper than most high end foundations.)
  • shu uemura Cream Eyeshadow in P Beige ($30): Expensive, but amazing. This neutral beige is the perfect easy everyday eye for me, blends well and outperforms other eye primers and cream shadows I’ve tried.

Like I said in my makeup vid, June was really not a month of makeup or beauty for me, but I think it really gave me a chance to focus on the essentials that I really rely on. All the products I’ve mentioned have become everyday staples for me. What did you love in June?

YAY you’re back! I missed your updates. I’m glad you had a great trip. Can’t wait to read more about it.

Great post! I haven’t watched your second video, but loved the skincare one. Your skin looks amazing! I can definitely see the difference. It just glows and looks flawless. (Is jealous.)

You’re the second one who has told me how great the HC primer is. I should get to Walmart to try it out already. I’ve been intrigued by the MUFE foundations, but after bad experiences with MAC and BB making my skin react really bad, I’m always hesitant to try new ones. My next stop to Sephora I will definitely try it out though. You’ve inspired me. $38 is definitely very reasonable!

    Catherine responds:

    Thanks, Sabrina! :D

& awww, you are too kind – the skin is all concealer and MUFE F&B (with a bit of Korres Ginger & Vitamins LF4 to darken it), but I do have to say the texture is so much nicer than it was before, I’m realllly happy. =)

Only the second?! LOL. If you’re not sensitive to silicones I think it is INCREDIBLE. :D

& ooh, I definitely think you should try the MUFE F&B – the formulation is sooo unique! I’ve heard MAC is pretty notorious for people breaking out to their foundations (though honestly, that rarely means anything as far as how one’s own skin will react), unfortunately, so I’m deathly afraid of trying any of theirs. =/

Hehehe, as my boss said – do it while you’re young when you still have energy because you’ll never have enough money anyways LOL. It was an awesome trip, not exactly what I was expecting, but awesome nonetheless. =)

& … actually no, I rarely make videos. I think I made 2 in the last year. It actually took me about 8 takes of the skincare vid and 3 takes of the makeup vid and total … 10 ish hours of filming, editing & uploading because I’m insane and OCD, so, I actually kind of hate it. I feel like I’m way better with taking pictures and writing anyway, at least for most things.

Awwww you are so cute in the videos lol *squishes you* I’m really intrigued by the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Clear Skin Cream, I know how crappy you felt with the breakouts you’ve been having the past couple of months so I’m really happy it’s worked well for you! I love the natural sea sponge, did you buy lots before you flew back home lol? ;D

LOL @ your review for the MUFE Face & Body Liquid Makeup! I was like whuttt when you tilted the bottle to let us see the lump in the bottle lmao! It’s interesting tho, it’s kinda like cheese curds omg. Sadly, there’s no MUFE down under and I can’t wait to check that foundation out when I fly back home.

    I’M SO HAPPY YOU’RE BACK!! :D :D :D

    Catherine responds:

LOL thanks, hon! & truly, the Neutrogena has been a MIRACLE. I am still smearing my cheeks with the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion every night since I still get these slight precystic bumps, but my nose and forehead have pretty much been 99% clear which is INCREDIBLE compared to where my skin was even 3 months ago.

& yes, actually, I bought a few as souvenirs for friends, but I totally got myself a backup face sponge teehee.

& DUDE – it’s so true!!! Especially in the half-empty tester bottles, it looks sooooooo gross! LOL. Luckily I had heard suuuuch raves about it and had a super helpful SA who explained why it looked that way, etc, so I actually tried it on still!

    :D :D :D :D :D

You look great! It’s funny though that you mentioned Kiss Me Heroine mascaras are hard to remove (heard it from other as well) because I’ve never met a mascara that comes off easier! Isn’t that odd how products can vary so much for people?

Gahh, I think I NEED the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Clear Skin Cream! I was watching a video by juicystar07 after I finished with yours, and she said that the Clean&Clear cleanser (I’m not really sure if it’s a cleanser, but I do remember the tube is orange-ish in colour) is pretty good in preventing breakouts =]

It has been way to long since I’ve been on your blog. But welcome back! I’m commenting first before I watch your videos but I read your list of favorites. Sometimes it really takes months where makeup isn’t really a priority or every day thing to then realize what products you truly like.

I’m going to add you as a friend and subscribe to you on YouTube. I just started a makeup-y channel of my own, but I also include ranting vlogs. And well, it’s going to be a little bit of everything. :)

love the skincare video! (hehe thanks for the little shoutout, isn’t that cleansing oil great?) The Neutrogena cream is on my list of things to buy now, lol. I love the MUFE F&B foundation too – it’s crazy hot and HUMID here now, and it still holds up rather well for me – shiny at the end of the day, but after using a blotting sheet or two I still look pretty decent. MG’s mom gave me some larger sea sponges when they went to Greece a few summers ago – they’re too big to use on my face, but they’re nice to use in place of a mesh sponge…the little one you got for your face is so cute :)

  23. heyyy Cat I get back tomorrow but I managed to get on a computer today. I’m glad you had fun on your trip!! Can’t watch the videos right now, but from your descriptions, there are SO many things I want to try out that I won’t even bother listing them. This month, I totally fell in love with my Maybelline Chai Latte quad, it’s pretty much all I had to use every day.

  24. Izumi says:

I have the kiss me mascara and the kracie naive cleansing oil but cannot remove it? How exactly do you use the oil to remve the mascara?
    ty

    [Reply]

    Catherine responds:

    Hi Izumi,
I use about a quarter-sized amount of the cleansing oil all over my face, concentrating on coating my lashes, then I take about a palm’s worth of water and rub it over my face so the oil emulsifies, again focusing on my lashes, and then I splash/rinse my face with lots of water to remove the cleansing oil. That usually takes everything off for me. The cleansing oil won’t melt the mascara by itself, it needs the water to emulsify it, but then it works like a charm. Hope that helps!

Thanks heaps! I’ll try it out. =D
