fotd and an attempt at an ootd

Hi guys. I got a makeover at NARS with a good friend of mine last weekend at the Westfield downtown. We had an awesome day – makeover, lunch, shopping, and Crazy Stupid Love, which was AWESOME. (Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera, so there’s no documentation of the day… =/) Anyway, my makeup artist at the event used Exhibit A on my face, and I LOVED it. It’s actually been on my to-buy list for a while now, so I’m really happy that’s the one he decided to use! Anyway, they were actually out of Exhibit A in the store, so I had it shipped to me, and I got it Thursday night. These pictures are from yesterday, my first fotd with it.

Face: NARS Sheer Matte Stromboli, MAC Lustre Drops in Pink Rebel, Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Bronzing Duo; Eyes: Bobbi Brown Bronze Palette Olive, Espresso, Amber, WnW Comfort Zone green, UD 24/7 Stash, HIP Gold Charge; Cheeks: NARS Exhibit A, MAC Improvise; Lips: Laura Mercier Clementine

I’m also wearing shadows from Bobbi Brown’s Bronze palette, from the fall Tortoiseshell collection. Hopefully I can do a post on that soon – it’s freaking gorgeous and I’ve been using it practically every day since I got it. Olive doesn’t have the most amazing texture as far as BB shadows go, but it’s stunning. I’m also wearing Laura Mercier’s Clementine, which is one of her new(er) gel lip colors. It’s so pretty, and for having such a sheer, lightweight gel texture, it actually is very buildable to a full red lip and it wears down and stains beautifully, so it’s very versatile. It’s also pretty much the same color as NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencil in Red Square (which is what I had put on at the NARS event, and bought, but may have to exchange because it absolutely murders my lips and does not stain well…).

And … I’ve been thinking about doing outfit of the day photos for well over a year now… but have never had anyone to photograph me. I went to a blogger book signing a few weeks ago though, and figured I might as well give the self-timer a try. And dude, it is really freaking hard!! These are the only good shots I got… and they’re really not that good in terms of actually showing the outfit. I think I need a tripod. Or I don’t know, a real photographer, hahaha. We’ll see.

coat by Jolt, from Nordstrom; tights and scarf from H&M; old sweater from American Eagle; bracelets from Anthropologie, American Eagle, Edition by Banana Republic; rings from Aldo and walkonthemoon@esty; shoes by Born; bag, which you can’t really see, by Melie Bianco

I’m positively in love with this Jolt cape that I bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. It’s not quite cold enough to be wearing it out yet, but I’m sure I’ll get a lot of use out of it once fall really starts. I’ve also been obsessed with stacked bracelets – this is quite a new thing for me since I’m generally quite insecure about how thin my wrists are (my bones just happen to be very close-set apparently), but it’s really a lot of fun. And statement rings, thanks to Ilyana – I actually think that was my gateway drug into the bracelets lol.

Anyway, hope you all are doing well, and hopefully I’ll have another post up soon. I have quite the backlog to cover!

Yayy! You posted :P The BB palette looks good on you! I have the Sand one and I have been wearing that one a lot lately too. I still love your cape. I’m sad it sold out in my size before I could snag one up too. I hope you post more OOTD’s in the Fall so I can look at it on you XD.

Heyyyyy! Thanks!! I’ve been considering getting the Sand one too! I love the Bronze one so much… & aww man. I actually went to the downtown Nordstrom the first day of the Anniversary sale and still had to have them order the cape for me since they’d already run out of my size in the camel color (at like 4pm!!!). It was crazy! & hahaha, I will try. =)

  10. Love your coat from Jolt, the color and cut are both perfect! The new LM lipsticks sound so tempting, I remember you telling me about Clementine.

About the tripod, of course it’s probably easiest just to find someone who’s willing to take pictures of you xD But there are also affordable tripods out there. I have one from Dynex that’s 60 inches tall, but since it’s made of a lightweight material, it’s much cheaper than a professional tripod of that height would be. It works well for me b/c it’s super easy to carry around, but still sturdy enough for me to feel comfortable putting my camera on top. Of course it doesn’t work as well/smoothly as a pro tripod would, but for my purposes it’s fine.

I’m hoping to catch Crazy Stupid Love next week, good to hear you liked it!

Thanks! I’m really glad I decided to order the camel one rather than go with black or plaid at the store. =) & dude, I kind of wish I’d bought a few more colors of the LM gel lip colors because they’re seriously awesome. I love them more, I think, than most of the Stickglosses because they’re all gel textures without shimmer/frost. I really wish she’d make more creams though! Those I love the most.

& DUDE! I wish!! But seriously, my ex was pretty much hopeless in terms of portrait-taking – he had an uncanny knack for making anyone look stupid in a picture. I don’t even know how it was possible for him to always take bad pictures – and I would say that I’m fairly photogenic and decently good at posing, you know what I mean?? Anyway, I’m considering getting a tripod as I can’t really think of anyone else I know who I’d be comfortable asking to take my outfit pics for me that’s also a decent photographer lol.

& I hope you see that movie soon! It’s really awesome! :D

Okay I’ve seen this outfit before but looking at the proper shots, I DIE!! The photo I’ve seen was just the cape and your glorious scarf but it looks so even more chic with your green tights hon! It’s unexpected and it’s so refreshing to see a splash of colour (as opposed to black tights) I just LOVE the color combinations in your outfit, the soft camel, your light printed floral scarf and the varying shades of antique gold + cream from your jewelry (btw your anthropologie collection is making me very, very jealous.)

And hehe I will not apologise for getting you started on your own collection of statement rings ;p I think it’s the easiest way to spice up any outfit! xo

p.s HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THE TORTOISE SHELL PALETTE?? One of my close friends caved in the other day when we went shopping and argh it’s so pretty! Bobbi Brown has such a knack for creating great palettes! ALSO BTW DUDE, I love small wrists o_O maybe it’s just an Asian thing lol.

    Catherine responds:

Awwww hehehe, thanks hon!! & hahaha, I’m glad you like the colors together. To be honest I don’t wear the green tights so often, but they’re kinda fun! & awwww, haha. When you come I’ll take you and we’ll shop at Anthro together! I can’t wait actually hahaha. & LOLLLLLL. I’m addicted and it’s all your fault!!! But I like it hahahaha. I’m sad though, ’cause when I start rotating again I can’t wear rings in lab, you know? ’cause they really get in the way of gloves, so I just have to wear rings as much as humanly possible right now while I can and then on the weekends when I go out and stuff hahaha. But dude, you need to tell me your ring size, because I’ve been finding super cute rings lately – I actually can’t wait to show you the last two I bought ($18 and $8 respectively, from Francesca’s Collection and Aldo hahaha) and then I can pick up some for you. :D

& DUDE! I wish I had good sunlight to take pics! You know honestly I probably already took pics before I used the palette but just can’t find them right now lol (such is my life hahahahahaha), but yes, yes, yes it is freaking gorgeous! I’ve seriously been using it every single day since I got it and I really love it, even more than the Day to Night Warm palette because (though honestly, I could use only that one for the rest of my life) the Bronze Tortoiseshell one is just that much more versatile with two more shadows, ykwim? LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I keep telling myself I reallllllly don’t need the Sand one too lol. But srsly, I freaking adore BB palettes – they are so like … effortless. :D

& awwwww, that’s sweet of you. :D I kinda went through like … the first 14 or so years of my life with idiot classmates grabbing my wrists to make a huge deal over how freaking skinny they are pretty much every day, so I think I’m a bit scarred. And people still do it today just not as like … juvenile-ly lol. Oh well, what can you do. =)
