About Strawberry Mochi

Strawberry Mochi is a “beauty blog” that started out as Pretty Shiny Things in March 2009 on Blogger. Within a few months, I got really tired of Blogger and decided to go back to WordPress (I’ve been making websites and blogging about various topics on and off for the better part of the last decade, and WordPress remains my favorite blogging platform).

Strawberry Mochi was officially launched December 31st, 2009. The site is run on a self-hosted installation of WordPress 2.9. The domain is registered with NearlyFreeSpeech.Net (♥, highly recommended) and hosted with HoleInTheWallHosting.com. The layout was designed by yours truly, in Adobe Photoshop CS, coded up in Textmate based off the default WordPress template Kubrick, and uploaded via YummyFTP (because I’m not quite 133t enough for Terminal yet). Very special thanks to Cynthia of Peony in Love for the adorable strawberry mochi graphic in my banner. :D :D :D

StrawberryMochi.com is actually my fifth domain, though one of two that I currently own. The name actually comes from a silly story about my ex-boyfriend and I.

Way back when we started dating, I wasn’t 100% sure I was in the right relationship. One day, shortly after he got his scooter, he decided he’d go grocery shopping and asked me and all of our friends if we wanted anything. (This was back when we lived on campus and grocery shopping was a big deal.) I didn’t request anything, but one of our mutual friends asked for mango mochi ice cream. When he got back, I found out that he not only fulfilled all shopping requests, he’d picked up a box of mango mochi for me as well! And that’s when I really fell for him! LOL!

Throughout the years, whenever I was feeling down or upset at him, he’d try to buy me a box of mango mochi to cheer me up again. (I had to explain to him years later, and much to his dismay, that a) it was the thought that counted for so much and b) mango isn’t actually my favorite mochi ice cream flavor, LOL.) Unfortunately, mangomochi.com was already taken by the time I was searching for a domain name, but we figured that strawberry mochi was the next best thing – and actually my favorite!

We are no longer together, but strawberry and mango mochi ice cream will always hold a special place in my heart.
