Graduation Weekend

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Hi guys! As many of you may know, I’ve just about finished my undergraduate degree in Bioengineering. It’s not official ’till my Spring ’10 grades come out later this week, but all the ceremonies, etc happened this weekend. I’ve had a particularly busy few weeks since SO and I were moving out and my mom & brother were visiting. In retrospect it was a horrible, horrible idea, LOL, but everything’s done now! So, I just wanted to share a few pictures from the weekend.

My mom and brother arrived on Thursday evening and met up with me on Friday after my last final for the Bioengineering Department’s Graduation Celebration.

I actually opted not to walk in my college’s commencement because I figured it’d be more fun for my family to go to the Birch Aquarium instead, but my mom insisted I borrow a friend’s cap and gown to take pictures in, LOL.

And we also took some pictures of me in my graduation dress (the same one I wore for my birthday).

SO & I after the JSOE Ring Ceremony

Saturday was the Engineering School’s Ring Ceremony.

My mom and brother were only here for about 3.5 days, but we tried to make the most of it! We went to the San Diego Zoo, which is one of my favorite places in SoCal.

And we went to a couple beaches as well. I don’t get to see my family often, so it was really nice that they could make it out for such a special event in my life. ♥

In case anyone’s interested, I’m wearing Shu P Beige, MAC Magnetic Fields, and UD Underground, R&R X-Rated, and LM Azalea in the pictures of me in the dress and cap & gown. In all the other pictures I’m wearing MAC Melon, Museum Bronze, Blonde’s Gold, UD Bourbon and Shu P Peach 45 and LM Peach Sorbet.

SunGod Festival

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Hi guys, short post with lots of pictures today haha. Here are some pics from the SunGod Festival last Friday. My friends and I ended up not actually spending all that much time at the concert because it was SO COLD out! We left around 7pm and went to Tofu House for dinner before catching Iron Man 2. None of us are really concert or drinking people, so I think it was actually our best SunGod yet LOL.

Me, J & T at my apt.

We met up at my place first to play with makeup and nail polish, as is our pre-concert/dance tradition. T and I actually went out to lunch first, poor J got stuck at work and had to meet us about an hour late.

T‘s probably the least girly of the three of us so J and I always do her makeup. It’s kind of become a tradition by now haha, and I hope she does actually enjoy getting dolled up lol. I don’t have any pictures of nail polish, but T chose China Glaze Ruby Pumps for her fingers and Sinful Daddy’s Girl for her toes. For her eyes, she picked out Fyrinnae Parental Advisory from my collection and I put the rest together.

T, eye & face makeup by me, liner by J.
Eyes: Kat von D Galeano, Rad Purple, Lucifer (Beethoven), Fyrinnae Parental Advisory, HIP Chrome Violet Volt, Urban Decay Zero, Shiseido Perfect Mascara; Cheeks: Hard Candy Living Doll, Laura Mercier Gilded Garden; Lips: Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited in PK 369;

I chose to do a dramatic purple smoky eye paired with a soft pink cheek and toned down MLBB lips. Can you believe T‘s only wearing that bright shu lipstick sheerly? She has such perfect lips! & of course, I can’t and have never been able to do top liner, so I defer to J who is the queen of winged black liner. She always does such a perfect job! T was so funny, she kept on commenting that her eyes looked so big she was freaked out by them LMAO! :D

J‘s quickly becoming an expert at eyeshadow! I was unfortunately between doing my own makeup and T‘s while she did hers so I didn’t get to see what she used except that she borrowed my Kat von D Beethoven palette.

J did her own makeup.
Eyes: Kat von D Beethoven palette; Lips: clear lip gloss;

She did a really pretty blue smoky eye and kept the rest of the face light and fresh. I totally want to know what blush she used now teeheehee. We sadly didn’t get a chance to do J‘s nails since we were pressed for time (and actually we ended up missing the only part of the concert we really wanted to see…) but hopefully we’ll have another girl’s night in soon. =)

& I did mine.
Eyes: MAC Mutiny, HIP Showy duo teal, Fyrinnae Polar Bear, HIP Chrome Gold, Prestige WP Surf; Cheeks: Shu Uemura Lolly Cherry, Laura Mercier Gilded Garden; Lips: Chanel Egerie;

I opted to go with a bright teal and gold eye with coral pink cheeks and lips, almost exactly like a recent FOTD. It came out a little different though, I think because I didn’t layer 5 blushes LOL.

Anyway, like I alluded to earlier, the only part of the concert we were really interested in seeing was Michelle Branch, but we just barely missed her performance. Unfortunately neither J or I had gotten wristbands for the concert (they ran out at 3pm … wtf???) and so we used SO and his friends’ to get in, but by the time we managed to she was already leaving the stage. So we just kind of milled around for about two hours and watched a couple dance performances before we got too bored and too cold and left for a girls’ night out.

At the festival.

But we have pictures to prove we were there. =) I’m still sorting through Junkyard Derby pictures. That post will probably come later this week. =)

MAC Spiced Chocolate FOTD & Birch Aquarium Pictures

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Hi guys! The post I have today is totally out of schedule, but I was so excited about this find I just couldn’t resist! I was recently able to score MAC’s coveted Spiced Chocolate Quad from the Cult of Cherry Collection!! I “got into” makeup around the end of November 2008 so I missed MAC Cult of Cherry by a couple months and of course Spiced Chocolate was LONG GONE by then. I’ve been interested in tracking it down for what seems like ages now but with it going for ~$80 on Ebay and always so quickly snatched up on blogsales, I had just about given up on ever finding it. My heart almost stopped when I saw it on Tammy‘s blogsale and I seriously couldn’t believe I was the first one to email her about it! It arrived safely a few days ago and it’s everything I wanted it to be. Thank you so much Tammy!!! :D :D :D (All pictures are clickable for the full-sizes.)

MAC Spiced Chocolate Quad Swatches: Nanogold, Brash, Sweet Chestnut, Spiced Chocolate

Here’s a picture of the quad and some swatches. I’m quite impressed by the eyeshadows. I am not a huge fan of MAC eyeshadows and I actually swapped away my MAC 6 Smokey Eyes from Holiday ’08 (incidentally, my first eyeshadow palette EVER). I think Spiced Chocolate is overall much higher quality though. Nanogold is a really light almost-exactly-my-skintone vanilla shimmer. It’s very sheer and kinda chunky, but it makes for a decent brow highlight. Brash is a metallic orangey rust. It has the best texture out of all the shadows – almost as buttery as my Shu Fleur de Source ones. Sweet Chestnut is a dark metallic cranberry. I don’t have MAC Cranberry to compare, but from swatches I think Sweet Chestnut is darker and less bright than Cranberry. It didn’t swatch as well as Brash but it layers and blends well on the eyes. Last is Spiced Chocolate, a matte medium warm brown. It also didn’t swatch as well as Brash, but it layers and blends just fine too.

Eyes: MAC Spiced Chocolate Quad, UD Baked; Cheeks: LM Nectar & MAC Nuance; Lips: Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura Jupiter Brown

Here’s my first FOTD with the palette. I wanted to use the whole quad, so I used Nanogold as the highlight and then put Brash almost all over my lid, Sweet Chestnut in my outer corner and crease, and deepened my outer corner with Spiced Chocolate. I did cheat a little and add UD Baked for highlighting my tear duct though. It’s the first time I’ve ever used a warm red/pink, but I actually really like it! It took a few attempts, but finally I figured out I just had to blend Sweet Chestnut out a little above my crease so that I didn’t look weirdly ill (damn my small lid space). I paired the eye look up with warm cheeks and lips. I used LM Nectar and MAC Nuance blushes, and Shu Jupiter brown lipstick.

There’s also a picture of my outfit of the day (OOTD) since I’m wearing one of the pieces I got from the YesStyle store and Innerchild was interested in seeing what I bought (I’m slowly collecting OOTD pics). The navy jacket that I’m wearing is from Dampoppo? I paired it with a light blue grecian style tunic dress which is just barely peeping out under the jacket, a denim skirt my mom got me from who-knows-where which I’ve had since high school, grey thigh high socks and black suede slouchy flat boots from Target. The hat that I’m carrying actually belongs to SO’s mom – she forgot it at our place so we were bringing it back to her on our trip to the Birch Aquarium!

And here’s SO and I outside the Aquarium. (This was on Sunday, the 3rd. And yes, I positively love living in San Diego. :D :D :D) I’ve been wanting to go to the Birch Aquarium forEVER, and SO has been promising to take me there forEVER, so I was so excited we finally got to go!! It’s sort of an outgrowth of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and it’s a pretty small aquarium, but a very nice one. I took a ton of pictures. Unfortunately I don’t remember the names of most of the sea creatures… and I am way too lazy to label the ones I do remember. But if you have questions, feel free to ask them. =)

These were my favorite though:

How cool is this fish!? It has natural fishnets and polka dots! In the same fish!!!!
And HOW CUTE are these little guys?! Love them! LMAO!!! XDXDXD

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. =)
